Bulgarian Telecommunications Market Up by 11 percent in 2004

Bulgaria's telecommunications market has expanded by 9-11% over the last year due to the wider range of services offered by the local operators coupled with ongoing efforts to open the market to competition, said Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) chairperson Gergana Surbova. The CRC reported a growth of 10.7% for 2003 when the market reached EUR 1.1 B. The former state monopoly BTC has lost 40% of its incoming and 11% of its outgoing international call traffic after the end of its monopoly over the provision of leased lines and fixed-line services.
